Topic work in Y5 and 6

We studied the Life and Times of Queen Elizabeth II. Children were fascinated to learn about the Homefront in World War 2. We made rag rugs, pickled onions and learned how to darn socks! Children and staff enjoyed seeking refuge in the Anderson and Morrison shelters.
Unit 2a made sure that they wouldn't be injured by flying glass by taping over the windows and ensuring blackout procedures were maintained.
In learning about the Ancient Greeks, we have enjoyed finding out about their beliefs and all the mythological beasts. our favourite was the minotaur that was kept in the palace of Knossos by king Minos. The Minoans were also famous for their fine pottery. Unit 1A made a pottery shop.
In October, the Y6 children enjoyed a residential trip to Hooke Court in Dorset. We made mud bricks, Greek dishes including Houmus and Pitta bread and made some beautiful greek style jewellery out of leather and wire.
